Start Here: Your personal wikispace website will hold all of your artwork completed in Media Art. This assignment shows you how to add text, upload images, create pages on your page, and how to turn in your work. Please follow all the instructions in order to receive a grade. Several students have failed this class due to not properly setting up their websites.


Directions to Make a Wiki:
  1. Create a new tab (Command T) and open up: www.wikispaces.com
    Click on Sign In at the top right hand corner of screen.
    Click Make a New Account
    Put in UserName (Firstnamelastname)
    Password (Something you will always remember)
    Email Address (Use Your school provided gmail account...Student Number...Password: Date of Birth)
    Select Yes for Make a Wiki?
    Wiki name: Your name (firstnamelastname)
    Wiki type: K-12
  2. Keep the website a Classroom wiki. Course: Media Arts. School: George Washington High School, Denver.

To add text:
2. Once into your site, you will be located at your Home Page. Click on Edit (which is hiding in the top right corner). Notice a new menu bar appears at the top.

b) Highlight all the text and click delete. This opening page should say something about yourself so start typing. Tell me about who you are, what makes you learn, what you like, where you want to go someday.
c) Then highlight all the text, and click the T with the circle that has color in it.

It will direct you to a new menu that has options for text size, color, etc. Only the highlighted text will change.

3. To add pictures to your home page....

a) First create a folder on the computer named after yourself. This folder will hold all your work. To create folder: MAC VERSION: Click on finder. Click on student under places. Click the button like looks like a wheel titled "Perform tasks...." Click New Folder. Name it after you.
b) Upload photos from your phone by emailing to yourself and saving to your folder. These pictures should say something about you. c) Put your cursor where you want the images to go on your home page. Then click on File on the menu bar. file.jpg You must have your images already saved to the computer so once you click file, it will redirect you to another screen. Click Import Photos to bring in images and find where you stored your images on your computer. Once you select what you want, choose open. Give it a minute but they will appear. You can only import .jpgs, NOT PHOTOSHOP FILES. Once you import them, they stay in your library. Click on the image you want, and it will appear on the Home page, where your cursor was originally. It will have it's own menu as well. You can change the size of it by click the + or the -. Once satisfied, click save on the menu bar.

4. Add links to the menu bar: Click edit navigation. High light the box you see, and hit delete. Then type in:

Home (then hit return)
Mini Tutorials (then hit return)
Who am I Project (then hit return)
Social Commentary Memes (then hit return)
Highlight Home and click Link on the menu bar. link.jpgThen click add link.

b) Highlight Mini Tutorials, click link, then add link. Do the same to Who Am I Project. Click save.

5. To send Ms. O'Ryan a message on wikispaces (this is how you turn in your work):


a)First, go to your homepage, click on members. Look in the upper right corner for "Invite People". Click. Type in eoryan into the TO box and click Invite. This invites me to be a member and access your webstie.

b) Then go back to your homepage by clicking HOME and copy the url address at the top of the screen. (For example: www.georgewashingtonart.wikispaces is an url address).

c) Next, click on the envelope looking icon at the top of your wikispace. Click compose message. In the User Name box, put in eoryan. Put in the subject (such as Packet 1 completed...) and in message, paste the url address. Then click send. That's it!
